Job Description
- Enforces university regulations, and city and state laws asthey apply on university property and designated areas
- Performs routine tasks as assigned using existing procedures,practices, techniques, etc.
- Patrols, inspects, supervises, responds to, etc. routineInstitutional Safety and/or police operations
- Performs standard assignments and responsibilities and makesrecommendations for improvement/efficiency, resourcing, etc., asnecessary
- Uses existing procedures to solve standard problems and/orcorrect standard, routine issues
- Conducts preliminary investigations, collecting and preservingevidence, etc.
- Has limited impact on own work team
- Works within standardized procedures and practices to achieveobjectives and meet established deadlines
- Exchanges straightforward information
- Develops working relationships with various teams/parties
- Maintains confidentiality and sensitivity toaudience/situation
Key Responsibilities:
- Work rotating shifts operating police vehicles or conductingfoot patrol throughout assigned geographical areas, observing forcriminal activity or other incidents requiring policeintervention
- Speaks informally on a continuing basis with citizensconcerning local ordinances, state laws, and police relatedsubjects to assist in resolving their particular problem incooperation with the Department
- Answers calls regarding service, illness, accidents,disturbances, crime, or distress and provides necessaryassistance
- Conducts after hour security checks of university buildings andproperty
- Responds to in-progress or recent criminal incidents toapprehend violators, restore, or maintain public safety and obtainpertinent information for subsequent investigations. May usenecessary physical force to subdue suspected criminals
- Makes pedestrian/vehicle stops to question suspects ofordinance/statute violations. Interview victims, witnesses, andactual or suspected subjects in criminal incidents.
- Writes a variety of narrative reports on incidents,information, traffic stops and accidents
- May serve as field training officer for new personnel
- Maintains departmental equipment, supplies, and facilities
- Keeps in contact with the public, court officials, and othercity officials in the performance of police operations activities;and frequently attends training programs to enhance job knowledgeand performance
- Dispatch and assist with information disbursem*nt
- Provide crime prevention programs to the campus community
Supervision Received:
- Work independently, under general supervision, andcooperatively with coworkers within procedures and guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma orequivalent
- A valid Missouri operator’s license
- Missouri POST certification may be required prior toemployment, but it is required once job is started
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced levels of education and safedriving record without violations, summonses, and arrests.
- 30 college credit hours from accredited college or universityOR 2 years federal active duty military service with an honorabledischarge OR 2 years’ experience as full-time POST certified peaceofficer
Anticipated Hiring Range
The anticipated hiring range for this position has been establishedas $25.49 hourly.
Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but notlimited to, the individual’s particular combination of education,skills, and experience, as well as organizationalrequirements.
